Their vineyards sit on the western side of Cayuga Lake and gradually slope toward the lake. They are composed of a diverse blend of Vinifera and hybrid grapes covering approximately 33 acres. Their oldest plantings are from 1975 and our Riesling vines date back to 1980. They use a variety of trellis systems to train the vines. Their Vinifera grapes are all on a system called Vertical Shoot Positioning, or VSP, which maximizes light exposure and airflow through our canopies. The resultant “divided canopy” has greatly improved Lucas’ wine quality over the years.  Vinifera varieties grown on their farm include Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Pinot Noir. Hybrids grown include Cayuga White,Vidal Blanc, Seyval Blanc, Noiret, and Vignoles.
